Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration, Project Management
Robert has expertise in the core skills of quantity surveying gained over 30 years of cost management of a range of private and public sector projects including feasibility, procurement, cost planning, value management and engineering, tendering, valuation and cost control during the construction process and settlement of final accounts.
Working under the various contract forms of the JCT suite of contracts. Robert has expert skill as a contract administrator applying the appropriate contractual mechanisms and procedures at the various stages of the project including managing instruction and variation procedures, payment provisions and certification of completion and possession.
Managing a range of projects from domestic renovations, to new council offices and school buildings, Robert has gained an expertise in project management during briefing and inception, through the design stages, procurement and contract, construction and post completion with defect management.
Identification, rectification & valuation of building defects
With a working knowledge of the Building Regulations and Town and Country Planning Act together with construction technology and building pathology, Robert has an expertise in identifying whether work is statutory compliant and in accordance with appropriate material and workmanship standards. Having worked on a multitude of repair and renovation projects, Robert understands the options available to rectify defects and has detailed knowledge of the factors affecting the costs involved in remedial work.
Quantification and valuation of building work carried out
Robert has been involved in the measurement and quantification of building work both from drawings and as built on site, throughout his career and has a working knowledge of industry standard practices of estimating, measurement and valuation at various levels of contracting as well as the published standard methods of measurement.
Quantification of damages, loss and/or expenses incurred in construction contracts
Construction projects are prone to delay and disruption. With detailed knowledge of JCT Contracts, Robert has extensive involvement in assessing Contractors’ claims for extensions of time and for loss and expense and experience in assisting contractors prepare claims themselves.
Assessment of quantum on negligence claims brought against construction professionals
As a partner of a Chartered Surveying practice, Robert has been managing the delivery of professional services on construction projects against a background of RICS Practice Notes and Practice Statements for 20 years.
